4.5/5 STARS This book is a bit dated in its terminology, as it was published in the early 70s. I docked it 1/2 star for referring to them as "Indians" rather than the correct term of "Native Americans.""Touch the Earth" is an absolutely moving collection of speeches, prayers, and letters of the Native American people. From the perspectives of many native cultures throughout history, its common theme is the anguish and suffering of an entire race under North American colonialism. This book is so powerful as it is bursting with eloquent anger and pain. Despite the intelligence, fairness, and trust, their just words fell on deaf ears. These are the voices of a nation who truly faced oppression and were the strongest and wisest advocates for a free and equal nation. American and Canadian nations believe our countries were born on these principles, but there's still so much to learn and many mistakes to be remedied. This was a heart breaking yet gripping read. It was well put together with goregous photography. I highly recommend it.
