This is a unique book in the area of quantum mechanics, but I would not recommend it as a first textbook on QM. It reads more like an anthology of high-level research in the area up to the 1970s (although there are still some great explanations in there which make it useful as a reference). The background knowledge assumed is fairly punishing: I would not recommend it if you have not taken at least a year's worth of courses on graduate-level physics and applied mathematics. In particular, there is a section in the middle of the book where the theory of symmetry groups is applied to energy levels for configurations of polyatomic molecules. I have myself done a course on molecular physics and have also self-studied symmetry groups (making a particular study of the tetrahedron group) so I was personally able to follow along, but this section felt like it could be a bit too much for some students.
