Fleeing pain and misery, Rissa Young decides to quit her job, leave Philadelphia and head to France. Unfortunately, when she arrives it seems that her streak of bad luck has followed her when she becomes the victim of a con game. Destitute and alone, Rissa is befriended by a young woman who persuades her to stay with her family. Evan Maynard is convinced that the woman his sister Frankie has brought into their wealthy home is just another one of the hangers-on she always attracts. When he realises she is not, he concocts a plan that could put them in danger.
