The name John Brown will always be linked with the time just preceding the Civil War. This biography tells the story of a white man who advocated and practiced insurrection in his effort to abolish slavery. His attempt to start a liberation movement among enslaved blacks at Harper's Ferry stunned the nation. Afterward he was tried for treason and hanged.
